Juan Ciscomani Defeats Four Others In Crowded Republican Primary In Southeast Arizona

TUCSON – Juan Ciscomani tonight secured the Republican nomination in Arizona’s 6th congressional district.

Tonight’s overwhelming victory came after a hard fought, year long campaign in the sprawling Southeastern Arizona congressional district.

"As my dad once asked, where else could we have our story?” Ciscomani said to a crowd of nearly 200 supporters at his watch party at the campaign headquarters in Tucson. “We come to this country, immerse ourselves in the culture, learn English, earn our U.S. Citizenship, I drive a bus for most of my life, and my son has a shot at becoming a member of the United States Congress?  Where else could our story be? Nowhere else.  Where else could you have your story? Only in America could we have our stories; and now the story of this guy from an immigrant family, who grew up in East Tucson, went to Rincon High, Pima and UofA, includes being the Republican Nominee for the U.S. Congress race in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District.  The American Dream is still alive, and it’s a dream worth fighting for.”

Arizona's new 6th congressional district is the only open seat in Arizona and one of the most competitive congressional districts in the nation. It includes parts of Cochise, Pima, Pinal, Graham and all of Greenlee County. Juan Ciscomani announced his run for AZ-06, a border district representing 5 counties, in early August 2021.

Juan Ciscomani’s full remarks:

Thank you. Thank you.

At this time, one year ago, exactly 365 days, we were hours away from launching this campaign.  Many of you were with us on that day, many of you I met along this journey, but all of you played a part with us standing here tonight.  Thank you for your support and for sharing tonight with us.  As my dad once asked, where else could we have our story? We come to this country, immerse ourselves in the culture, learn English, earn our U.S. The American Dream is still alive, and it’s a dream worth fighting for.

But tonight isn’t a victory for any one person – it’s a victory for Arizona and for our country. Because we are just 98 days from finally making Nancy Pelosi a FORMER Speaker of the House!

Doing so is not some partisan pursuit - it’s a patriotic pursuit. Real people are hurting - people right here in this community due to the failures in Washington DC, and it’s time we had a check and a balance on President Biden’s disastrous administration and on this White House. It’s time for accountability and for some real common sense.

We are facing a crisis at every turn, and they impact our district here more than almost any other. 2 twin crisis:

-Record and out-of-control inflation. They caused it and have no plan to fix it. And even though gas and milk cost more than ever in history, they are only making it worse. Our friends and neighbors are being strangled by the cost of living.

-And we have a border crisis just miles from here. This is a national security problem as much as it is a humanitarian one.  This administration has not only created the crisis but chosen to ignore it.

We need people in DC who are going to take these issues seriously, and who are going to fight for us. We need people who are in this for the right reasons.

The reasons I got in this race - they are right here: Laura and our six kids – Zoe, Juan David, Kenny, Lily, Lucas and Gloria. They’ve also been our most dedicated campaign volunteers. They are why I’m doing this – for my kids AND yours. Because I want them to have access to the same American Dream Laura and I have had access to as first generation Americans. The Dream my parents came to this country to pursue and are now living.  But it seems like it’s slipping away.

So let me make this commitment to the people of CD6:

I am sick and tired of the games that go on in Washington, DC.  When I go to Congress, I’m going there to be a constructive force for change. My loyalty is to the people of this district – I will be an independent voice fighting for you.

My priority is to represent you – the people of Pinal, Graham, Greenlee, Cochise and Pima counties – to the best of my ability.

And that means ALL of the people.

So we are going to continue campaigning in every corner of this district and reach everyone in this district.

For some that may have skipped Spanish class in high school, I have a message for my friends in the Hispanic community: For too long the Democrats have taken our votes for granted and tried to pander to us, and the Republicans have written us off and in many cases we have felt ignored. I’ll never do either. I intend to earn your vote, by coming to you and talking to you about the issue impacting you. I am proud of my heritage and I am proud to be an American – and I know you are too. That’s why we need to fight together for our values, American values. I look forward to meeting you and earning your support.

The Democrats are still counting their votes, but one thing is clear, no matter who they nominate: This campaign will present a clear and stark choice. Their party seems intent on nominating someone who wants to rubber stamp Nancy Pelosi and President Biden’s policies, which are clearly not working. They are out of touch, too extreme and have no plan.  I look forward to a spirited debate about the direction of our country – we want change; they want the status quo. We want to talk about the issues that matter.  They will try to talk about anything except what they broke.

Here’s what you can count on from me:

  • I will fight to secure the border, not ignore it.

  • I will fight to cut Washington’s spending addiction, not fuel the recklessness.

  • I will support policies that make American energy dominant and independent, not reliant on foreign sources

  • I will fund and support our law enforcement, military and Veterans, not defund the police.

  • And I will fight to give parents a say in their child’s education, instead of politicizing our kids’ classrooms.

My parents came here as immigrants with 3 top things in mind: A better job, better education for their kids, and a strong rule of law. Isn’t this what all of us want?  Whether we immigrated here or have been here for generations.  We want a shot at the American Dream.  My parents achieved that Dream, not measured by financial wealth, but by opportunity.

I hope to make my family proud. I hope to make you proud. And it starts with asking for your vote in November. I am so deeply humbled and grateful for your support.

I’m Juan Ciscomani, I am living the American Dream and I will fight to keep it alive, because the American Dream is a Dream worth fighting for.  I’ll see you out on the campaign trail. Dios los bendiga, God bless you!
